- Access the Google Admin Console: Sign in to your Google Workspace admin account at admin.google.com using your administrator credentials.
- Navigate to the Organizational Units section: Once logged in, you’ll see the Admin Console dashboard. From the left-hand side menu, click on “Directory” and then select “Organizational Units.”
- Click on the “+” button: On the Organizational Units page, click on the “+” button located at the top-left corner. This will initiate the process of creating a new OU.
- Provide a name and description: In the “Name” field, enter a descriptive name for the new organizational unit. This name should reflect the purpose or grouping of the users within that OU. You can also optionally add a description to provide more context.
- Set the parent unit (if applicable): If you want the new OU to be nested under an existing OU, click on the “Parent” dropdown menu and select the appropriate organizational unit. This step is optional if you want the new OU to be at the top level.
- Configure the settings (optional): Under the “Settings” section, you can configure additional settings for the organizational unit. This includes policies related to services and features, device management, user access, and more. Adjust these settings based on your organization’s requirements. Note that some settings may require advanced configuration or additional licenses.
- Click on “Create”: Once you’ve provided the necessary information and configured the settings (if desired), click on the “Create” button to create the new organizational unit.
- Verify the creation: After clicking “Create,” you’ll be redirected to the Organizational Units page. Verify that the new OU has been successfully created by locating it in the list of existing OUs.
- Manage users within the organizational unit: To add or move users into the newly created OU, navigate to the “Users” section in the Google Admin Console. Select the user(s) you want to assign to the OU and use the “Move to” or “Add to” feature to assign them to the appropriate organizational unit.
- Repeat the process as needed: If you need to create additional organizational units, you can follow the same steps for each new OU you want to create.
By following these steps, you can create organizational units in Google Workspace to organize and manage users within your organization’s structure.
